눈썹을 가늘게 뽑고 커다란 비취목걸이를 한 사장 부인이 안내하는 대로 아내와 나는 만찬용 긴 식탁 앞에 섰다.

사람들의 눈을 살피려고 고개를 돌렸을 때

 원래의 문장에선 남자가 사람들의 시선을 살피는 거니
when I surreptitiously looked arouund other people, 정도가 좋을 듯싶었다. 
그 뒤에 서술도 역자가 추가한 것. 다들 탈브라를 보고 ㅇ0ㅇ 했다는 건데,

원작에는 그렇게까지 안 나와있고 전무 부인만 봤으니까. 

 

하지만 뒤에 "그녀를 흘끔거리는 시선들을 의식하며" 란 서술이 나왔기에 이렇게 앞에 넣어주는 것도 괜찮은 듯 싶다.

나는 마음을 가다듬었다. 최대한 자연스럽게 행동하는 것만이 그 순간 내가 할 수 있는 최선 같았다.

영어가 남자가 좀 더 생각이 결단력 있는 듯한 서술이다. 실제로는 동공지진 하고 있을 것..
